Our science curriculum currently follows the GCSE Combined Science route and allows each student to work towards two GCSEs in Science.

Delivered by our excellent science department, students cover a wide range of Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics with a focus on developing their scientific thinking and practical skills. Students will sit their exams at the end of Year 11. All exams will consist of written assessment covering multiple choice questions, structured, closed and open short answer questions.

Science at the Beacon of Light School aims to connect Biology, Chemistry and Physics together, drawing on key concepts and are enhanced with a range of purposeful practical activities. The Combined Science course enables students to develop their scientific thinking, improve their experimental skills, analyse and evaluate data and also develop their scientific vocabulary. The skills students learn in science not only prepare them for GCSEs, but also for the wider world and work place.
