The Hair and Beauty curriculum aims to deliver a broad, balanced and flexible curriculum that enables students to understand the hair and beauty sector, develop knowledge and skills that will allow progression within the hair and beauty sector.

The course is made up of 4 units, 2 mandatory and 2 optional. Students will develop their understanding of the hair and beauty sector, carry out a hair and beauty research project, learn about the science behind hair and beauty and respond to a design brief.

Although the main focus of the course is hair and beauty it also develops learners more broadly, so they are prepared with the knowledge, skills and understanding to pursue a career in any area. Throughout the course students will develop transferable skills, which will be useful for both other subjects across the school and to prepare them for post 16 destinations. Some of the skills they will develop are critical thinking, research skills, independent working, creativity, applying knowledge to real life examples, problem solving and communication skills.

Students are encouraged to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in each unit to a variety of practical techniques, this will be supported by external visitors running different practical sessions for students.

The overarching intent of the hair and beauty curriculum is to develop well rounded students who have the skills and knowledge to succeed either in hair and beauty sector or any other career path they follow.
